Hello!

I’m ecstatic you are here!

I am Evangeline Barbour, a graphic and web designer by trade, and an artist by every fiber of my being. I love anything creative and constantly find myself starting new projects. My biggest project yet is venturing into the e-commerce world with my own online shop, furnished with all of my handmade and uniquely designed wares.

Based in Buffalo, New York, I live and work in the heart of the art district, right in a little community of artists called Artspace Buffalo.

I am also a single mom, who tries the provide the very best to my munchkins- my son Cyan, my grumpy cat Frik and my crazy Tasmanian devil of a dog Avalon (A.V.) for short.

MY STORY

HOW I GOT STARTED

I wear many hats in my business, very similar to that of my personal life. Behind all the juggling and running around, there was one thing that motivates me- making people happy.

Evangeline Barbour Designs, was officially born out of the ashes of a crashing economy back in 2010- let go from the first corporate design job after earning my degree, I had a desperate determination as a single mother to support my son and never be subjected to that type of brutal disappointment again.

As a graphic and web designer, I quickly found opportunities by joining networking groups and focusing mainly on meeting other business women of like mind. As I told my story confidently within these groups, behind the scenes I cried at the uncertainties that I faced. And yet, was my love for small businesses and entrepreneurs that pushed me through. Helping them move forward past the dream stage, bringing their ideas to reality, and seeing their excitement moving forward was everything.

My graphic and web design skills brought a lot of success to my clients, and while that made them (and me) happy- the artist in me was screaming “uh, hello, what about me!”.

MY VISION WAS ALWAYS TO REMAIN SMALL, SPECIALIZING WITHIN THE NEEDS OF MY CLIENTS.

Evangeline Barbour Design's office
My office is my sancturary- crystals, computers, and creativity!

Being an artist was always a part of me- from inception I believe. I inherited my abilities from my mother- I soon began painting, drawing, sewing, crocheting and when I moved out on my own- building (skills which I got from my father). So naturally, it wasn’t enough to just do those things in the small amount of free time I had for myself, it was in my blood to just create.

I began to explore art seriously, through sculpting trees with wire. This drive blossomed from a determination (after many failed attempts) to grow a Bonsai tree. So I decided to create a Bonsai that would never die. Soon that grew into more trees, sun catchers and zen gardens. My design clients began to buy my creations and I thought, why not have it all? I have reached EUPHORIA!

I began developing goods based on my design AND art skills- planners to help small businesses succeed, marketing material, zen gardens for new offices, sun catchers to illuminate dull areas. The boundaries between art and design dissolved into gooey goodness and I wanted to reach out to more people who wanted to experience just as much  joy from my creations as I did, and as my clients and customers do right now.

The boundaries between art and design dissolved into gooey goodness and I wanted to reach out to more people who wanted to experience just as much  joy from my creations as I did, and as my clients and customers do right now.

One day, in a causal talk with a client outside in the warm bright sun, at the very patio table that I reimagined from an old picnic table and some 4×4 posts, I announced that I was going to open an online shop that emitted only purely positive things. And before I could get another word out, she blurted-

“Why Don’t You Call It Purely Positive?”

I thought, “what absolute genius!” (Thanks Jamie Shaner, Home Solutions, Inc.) and so each item I present one of my creations, it is now a part of the Purely Positive line, by Evangeline. Because happiness is unique to us all, each designed or hand crafted piece is also special in that way.
